Bilbies are not live bait
Australian scientists have developed a novel weapon they say could protect native species from predation; the only problem is, it kills them in the process.
For over a year, 30 bilbies have been kept within a fenced reserve in South Australia. They’ve been recruited as live bait: within their skin, a chemical pellet lays in wait, concealing a lethal payload of 1080 poison. The shocking scheme will see each bilby eaten, any cat cruelly killed by 1080, and any scavenger suffer the same awful fate.
Join us in telling the Minister live baiting is no way to treat a bilby.
